Friday, June 5th, showcase game is at House Park. Coach Conrad will coach the game. I might be there. I am currently in Temple, Texas with my family as my father is undergoing heart surgery.
Date: Friday, June 5th Time: Players arrive at 6:00pm, The game will be 6:20pm-6:50pm Location: House Park Stadium *Players should bring a blue shirt and a white shirt. *NOTE: The surface is TURF, so players are advised to bring both cleats and athletic shoes (i.e. cross-trainers or running shoes.) They are required to wear shoes for the game.
While only the players you select will participate in the game, everyone is invited to watch! It will be especially fun for them to see the high school and men's games that follow ours.

Hey Parents and Players:
Wow! What a crazy year! So we are getting very excited about
playing in the Middle School Frisbee tournament this weekend. We will have one more practice after
school this Thursday- from 3-4:30 held by Coach Martin. The tournament will be
on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Murchison Middle School. Each school will have only one team for
the tournament. So we will combine both teams to make a super team. Please
bring your red shirt, lots of water, sunscreen, lunch and running shoes. I also recommend a hat, sunglasses and
extra, extra water. If we could
have a couple of parent volunteers bring some snacks, that would be great. Please contact me at jmartin3@austinisd.org.
TOURNAMENT
INFO FROM COACH CONRAD: The
tournament is scheduled for this Saturday, May 23rd. Considering time,
space, the heat, and numbers, I think it would be best for all of us to only
have one team per school in the tourney. That would mean playing five
rounds (during which everyone would get a bye), followed by a
"finals" round where the top two teams play for first place. We
would begin at 9:00am and the finals would end by around 5:45pm or so.
WHAT
TO BRING: water, water, water, sunscreen, snacks, light
lunch, red shirt, cleats or running shoes, hat, fun attitude
QUESTIONS?:
Contact Jenna Martin at jmartin3@yahoo.com
or see www.tvartin.com/class. I will post the schedule as soon as I
know it.

Dear Parents and Players,
Due to the swine flu outbreak, we have cancelled the next two Saturday
games, May 2nd and May 9th in accordance with the A.I.S.D./U.I.L. decision. I am
very sorry, however, I must comply with my directors and the rest of
the league. Our first responsibility is to keep your players safe! We
will however, continue to hold practices on Thursdays after school from 3:00-4:45. We want to keep
playing!
Currently we are scheduled for a bye on May 16th as Ms. Crouch and I
are to be out of town, however, we are looking into getting a game
scheduled that weekend and are looking for a UPA certified coach to
lead the teams. I will be in touch as soon as I know more about that.
We are still scheduled for the tournament on May 23rd and cross our
fingers the swine flu will have passed by then.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions.

What You Should Know About “Spirit of the
Game” and Middle School Ultimate
From the Preface of the
Official Rules of Ultimate—11th Edition: “Ultimate relies heavily upon a spirit of sportsmanship
that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged,
but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the
agreed upon rules, or the basic joy of play.”
- Players:
In Ultimate, players are responsible for officiating the game
themselves through a code of conduct called “Spirit of the Game.” This is one of the things that
makes the sport unique; players have to learn not only how to play but
also how to referee, resolve conflicts, and maintain excellent
sportsmanship. Coaches
may assist players in understanding the rules, but they will not make
calls.
- Fans & Coaches:
Spirit of the Game is an essential part of Ultimate and extends
to the sidelines as well.
Please keep in mind that respect between players, coaches, and fans
is central to the sport. If
you disagree with a call that is made on the field, let the players work
it out themselves.
- Middle School Ultimate in Austin:
This league is still developing, and it is essential that we
monitor and govern ourselves in an effective manner. Because we do not fall under the
jurisdiction of UIL, and because Ultimate is based on Spirit of the Game,
we must hold ourselves to high standards of sportsmanship and general
behavior in order to continue participating and allow the league to
grow.
